Teaching and school support roles in Peterborough
Explore opportunities across mainstream and specialist education:
- Primary teachers: EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
- Secondary teachers: subject teaching, general cover and longer-term assignments.
- SEN teachers and teaching assistants: teaching and supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Teaching assistants and HLTAs: classroom support, intervention and learning support.
- Cover supervisors: supervising classes using work provided by the school.
Vacancies change throughout the school year. If you cannot see a suitable role on our jobs board, register your preferences so we can consider you for upcoming opportunities. Some bookings are filled through our registered educators before they are advertised.
Primary teaching jobs
For primary roles, tell us whether your experience is in EYFS, Key Stage 1 or Key Stage 2, and whether you prefer whole-class teaching, intervention or a mixture of assignments. For longer placements, we will discuss planning and assessment responsibilities with you.
Secondary teaching jobs
Tell us your specialist subjects and the key stages you teach, including any GCSE or A-level experience. We can discuss subject-specific vacancies as well as general cover where suitable for your experience.
SEN teaching and support roles
If you are interested in specialist provision or supporting pupils in mainstream schools, tell us about your experience of additional needs, the age groups you have worked with and any relevant training. Explore our SEN teaching and support opportunities in Cambridgeshire.
Teaching assistant, HLTA and cover supervisor roles
These roles involve different responsibilities. Teaching assistants support learning, HLTAs may take on additional teaching responsibilities, and cover supervisors supervise classes using work provided by the school. We will discuss the requirements of each vacancy and how they match your experience.
Supply teaching, long-term assignments and permanent jobs
Day-to-day supply can suit educators looking for flexible working days and experience across different schools. Tell us when you are available, the age groups you prefer and how far you want to travel.
Long-term assignments offer the opportunity to work consistently with the same classes and school team. Responsibilities vary, so we will discuss the teaching, planning and assessment requirements before you accept a placement.
Permanent roles provide an opportunity to take your next career step. We can discuss your preferred school environment, subject or key stage, working pattern and career goals.
Working in Peterborough and surrounding areas
Your search can focus on Peterborough itself or include nearby areas such as Yaxley, Whittlesey and Thorney. If you are happy to travel further, let us know whether you would also consider Stamford, Oundle, March or Huntingdon.
Travel arrangements matter, particularly for early starts and short-notice supply bookings. Tell us your starting postcode, whether you drive or use public transport, and your maximum travel time. This helps us discuss suitable locations with you.
Pay and placement details
Pay depends on the role, school, experience, qualifications and responsibilities. Our advertised teacher rates typically range from £120 to £271 per day. For short-term school support roles, our usual ranges are:
- Teaching assistants: £93–£105 per day.
- SEN teaching assistants: £100–£115 per day.
- HLTAs: £105–£125 per day.
These are guide ranges, not a single rate for every booking. Check the individual advert and confirm your rate with us before accepting work. For long-term teaching roles, discuss your pay-scale point and the responsibilities of the assignment with your consultant. Permanent appointments have their own salary and contract terms.
Supply staff are paid weekly. Ask us about the PAYE and umbrella options available and how holiday pay, deductions and any umbrella fee are reflected in your pay illustration.
Before accepting a booking, ask us about:
- The agreed pay rate and payment arrangements.
- Working hours and the expected length of the assignment.
- The year group, subject or support requirements.
- Any planning, marking or assessment responsibilities.
- The school location and practical travel arrangements.

Questions about working in Peterborough schools
Do I need QTS to apply?
We welcome enquiries from applicants with QTS or an equivalent recognised teaching qualification, as well as people with relevant experience in UK schools. Eligibility depends on the particular role and school; some teaching posts require QTS. We also recruit for cover supervisor and teaching assistant positions with different requirements.
Can ECTs register?
Yes. Tell us your key stage or subject and whether you are looking for supply, a longer-term assignment or a permanent post. If completing statutory induction is your priority, discuss this with us so we can check whether a particular placement can support it.
Can I choose my working days and travel area?
Tell us your availability and preferred locations when you register. We will use those preferences when discussing bookings with you. Available work depends on school requirements and suitable vacancies.
Can I register for both supply and permanent work?
Yes. Tell us if you would like supply work while looking for a permanent position, or if you would consider a longer-term assignment. We will discuss suitable opportunities as they arise.
How do I get started?
Register online or contact our team to discuss your experience and the roles you want. We will explain the registration process and the checks needed before you can start work.
